As the world of work continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace, the Global Apprenticeship Network (GAN Global) remains at the forefront of workforce transformation. The 2024–25 Annual Report offers a compelling look into how GAN is shaping inclusive, a future-ready workforce through quality apprenticeships and work-based learning (WBL) across the globe.
A Decade of Impact
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, GAN Global reflects on a decade of progress in bridging the gap between education and employment. What began in 2014 as a response to youth unemployment has grown into a global movement advocating for lifelong learning and inclusive workforce development. With networks now spanning the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, GAN continues to drive systemic change through public-private partnerships.
Key Milestones and Initiatives
- Expanding Global Reach
GAN launched new country networks in India, Armenia, and Namibia, strengthening its presence in regions with unique workforce challenges and opportunities. These networks are tailored to local contexts, fostering collaboration between governments, employers, and training institutions. - Championing Inclusion
Inclusion was a central theme this year. GAN hosted webinars and released research on inclusive apprenticeships for people with disabilities, emphasising the untapped potential of underrepresented talent. The factsheet “Closing the Skills Gaps” highlighted how inclusive WBL can address global talent shortages. - Corporate Champions for Apprenticeships
The Corporate Champions initiative, launched at Davos, recognises companies that exemplify excellence in apprenticeship programs. These champions commit to aligning with the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) Recommendation on Quality Apprenticeships (R208), promoting diversity, protection, and collaboration. - Policy and Advocacy
GAN played a pivotal role in international policy dialogues, including the World Economic Forum and the ILO’s International Labour Conference. The organisation also contributed to the relaunch of the ILO’s Guide for Policymakers on Quality Apprenticeships and developed an Employer Roadmap to help businesses implement R208. - Innovative Projects
From Armenia to Australia, GAN’s projects are transforming lives. In Armenia, the “House of Apprentices” supports vulnerable youth with training and psychological services. In Australia, a new employer accreditation program recognises employers committed to high-quality apprenticeships. - Research and Insights
A landmark US study “Expanding Inclusive Demand-Driven Apprenticeships in the US: An Employers Perspective“, supported by JPMorgan Chase, explored the expansion of white-collar apprenticeships. The findings revealed strong employer interest but also highlighted barriers such as administrative complexity and funding gaps.
Looking Ahead
GAN Global’s vision is clear: a world where everyone has the skills to thrive. As digitalisation, green transitions, and demographic shifts reshape labor markets, GAN is doubling down on its mission to make apprenticeships a cornerstone of workforce development.
With a growing network, strong partnerships, and a decade of experience, GAN is poised to lead the next wave of innovation in skills development. The future of work is inclusive, adaptable, and built on the foundation of quality apprenticeships—and GAN Global is helping to build it.
