Looks forward to working together to create a strong VET program

27 May 2019 – Melbourne – Global Apprenticeship Network Australia (GAN Australia) and Apprenticeship Employment Network (AEN) has congratulated The Hon Dan Tehan MP on his reappointment as Education Minister and The Hon Steve Irons MP on his new appointment to the Cabinet as Assistant Minister for Vocational Education, Training and Apprenticeships. GAN and AEN look forward to continuing to work with Government to create a better VET model and to find ways to connect apprenticeships with education, helping to solve unemployment and skill shortages issues.

Gary Workman CEO of GAN Australia and AEN Victoria, said, “We congratulate Minister Tehan on his reappointment and Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash on her appointment to the full portfolio for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business.  We welcome Mr Irons as the new assistant Minister for Vocational Education, Training and Apprenticeships.

“We look forward to working with Senator Cash and Mr Irons on building a strong VET program in Australia.  Having been an apprentice himself, Mr Irons has first-hand experience and a solid understanding of how the program works.”

“We also look forward to continuing work with Mr Tehan and the Hon Karen Andrews MP.  We congratulate the Morrison Government on its new cabinet,” Mr Workman said.

Earlier this year Government announced a $525 million skills package to ensure Australians are able to develop the skills they need by creating ten new training hubs connecting schools, local industries and young people in regional areas with high youth unemployment. Mr Workman emphasized the need for business and training organisations to be engaged in order for the program to be successful.

GAN Australia looks forward to continuing its work with Government to ensure its skills package is used to the best possible advantage of Australians looking to gain new skills to get a job, and businesses across the economy needing highly skilled workers.
